What’s Your Superpower?

What’s Your Superpower?

When I was a little kid I loved Saturday mornings.  Mainly because it was the day I got to watch my favorite cartoons.  I had tons of favorite shows:  G.I. Joe, Duck Tales, Tale Spin, but the one I looked forward to with the greatest anticipation was… X-Men!  There is just something about watching a group of outcasts rise up and save the day.  What was once seen as a crutch became their greatest asset.   What I loved most was the good guys always won.  I wanted to be Wolverine.  He walked around with a chip on his shoulder, but always rose up when the team needed him.

Fast forward many years later, and I’ve come realize one of reasons that show spoke to my soul as a young child is because we all actually have superpowers of our own.  Now I’m not talking about having blades that shoot out from under your skin.  If that actually happens for you, please DM me, I would love to meet you.  No, I’m talking about the skills and abilities you posses that make an impact on the lives others.  Some call them strengths, others call them your spiritual gifts.  Whatever you call it, it’s the thing tattooed on your genetic make up, and when you use it, people stand in awe and are blessed.

So how do you figure out what your “Superpower” is?

Here are a few ways to really help you unlock your unique gifts.

1.      What brings LIFE to you?

This is pretty simple.  What are the activities that fill you up? They come extremely natural to you.  Maybe it’s teaching elementary 2nd graders, writing music, cleaning swimming pools, comforting the elderly in their last days.  When you find yourself thinking,  “I would do this for free.”  That is a solid sign that you are operating in your Superpower.

2.     What causes others to say… “Wow… that was amazing!”

Usually the folks in and around our lives are the greatest sign posts to what our Superpower is.  Perhaps when you bake, your friends and family can’t stop getter fatter because they devour everything you make.  Or when you finish up a coffee meeting with others in your life, they can’t stop thanking you and let you know how encouraged they are after time with you.  Think back over your life and look for the patterns.  You will start to see your Super Power emerge.

3.     Take some tests.

Not the kind of test that Professor Charles Xavier would perform on the X-men.  A little more toned down, but just as powerful.  Here are a few tests I have found to be super helpful:

   Spiritual Gifts Testhttp://www.lifeway.com/lwc/files/lwcF_MYCS_030526_Spiritual_Gifts_Survey.pdf

   Super Power Playing Cardshttp://amzn.to/2x8FKWx

   Enneagram Test : http://www.exploreyourtype.com (my wife’s favorite)

These are just a few.  There are tons out there, but use this as a great starting point.

So, what are you waiting for?  The sooner you discover your Superpowers, the sooner you can step into your gifts and ultimately start living the life you were meant to live.  As the wise old sage Professor Xavier once said, “Any dream worth having is a dream worth fighting for.”  One of the first steps to seeing your dreams become a reality is to discover your Superpowers and begin fighting for them.

I can’t wait to hear what you discover.  Once you land on your Superpower,  share them in the comments below or tag us on social media and let us know how you are using them to bless others in your life.

Remember, you only have one life, live it well.
