44: Lysa Terkeurst | Finding a Fresh Start

On today’s episode we had the incredible honor of chatting with President of Proverbs 31 Ministries, International speaker, and New York Times best-selling author of over 20 books : Lysa Terkeurst.

Lysa might just be one of the bravest people we’ve encountered. With great authenticity and vulnerability, she shares how she learned to trust God and fiercely cling to hope while walking through not just one but several of her greatest nightmares including the unraveling of her marriage and a cancer diagnosis. We talk with Lysa about the power of community, how to love someone well who’s going through a devastating heartache, and how to find a fresh start when your life hasn’t turned out the way you planned. Whatever you may be walking through today, we hope this conversation will encourage and inspire you to keep going, keep fighting, keep trusting God every single step of the way.

“ You never know how much pain someone is in until they start counting their days in seconds.”

“God doesn’t want to be explained away, God wants to be invited in.”

“We freely give grace because we recognize we desperately need it.”

“It was important me to heal physically, emotionally, spiritually, and all of that takes time.”

“What do you do when your life is reduced to nothing but dust?”

“Dust doesn’t have to signify our end. Dust is often what must be present for new life to begin.”

“You may have to have a funeral for what you thought your life would look like, and it may have to be a marked moment where you acknowledge, ‘Things will never be the same again.’ It’s from that place that you can begin to say: ‘But God.’ “I know my God, and I know that He can bring brand new life even from this.”

Experiencing God

Spend the first five minutes of the day in God’s word.

Don’t take the praise or criticism of others too seriously.
